The Inside Answer

Many of us think that just stopping drinking is the end goal.  We believe that if we can just hold the line, the rest will take care of itself.  

We stop drinking. We do the work. We get through the hard days. We start living again.

And for a while—it feels like everything's back on track.

But then, seemingly out of nowhere... we drink again.

Two months. Two years. Ten years later. Back to the beginning.

And to explain why, we piece together stories - like stress, events, circumstances, timing, willpower, etc.  They help us make sense of the world. 

We all nod with each other, with support, recognition and understanding.  

But what if that's not it at all?

What if it's not about what happened outside—but what's been quietly waiting inside the whole time?

Desire Inside

We don't relapse because of outside circumstances. We relapse because the desire to drink inside never left.

It just went quiet. Maybe for weeks. Maybe for years.

But if alcohol still holds any charge—any pull—then it's still "on the table." And all it takes is the right moment... One low. One high. One old story playing in the background.

Desire scans for conditions. And when it finds them, it reignites the cycle.

The Maze You Never Knew You Were In

Most people think the loop looks like this: Relapse → Recovery.

Slip up. Get back on track. Done.

But here's what we see, again and again:

Relapse → Recovery → RESISTANCE → Relapse

Resistance—is the part no one identifies or talks about. It's the quiet tension of staying sober while still wanting it.

You're not drinking. But you haven't let it go. And that desire keeps you locked in a cycle you can't see.

That's the maze. And until desire is completely eliminated, you're still in it.

A Permanent Breakthrough

Most people are aiming for an outcome that falls short of the real goal. They're trying to get better at not drinking. But the real breakthrough happens when you no longer want to drink.

“Not drinking” is a stage. “Not wanting to drink” is the exit.

Once desire is eliminated:

• There's nothing left to resist.

• There's nothing left to manage.

• And there's no way back in.

That's freedom, and it’s permanent.

We Move the Goalposts Where They Always Belonged

The goal is never just to stop drinking. That goal doesn’t go far enough.  

The goal is to eliminate the desire that could ever pull you back.  Because when there’s no desire, there’s no threat.

That's the moment the maze ends. And once it does—you don't have to navigate your way out of it anymore.

Step out of the maze for good, and enjoy the freedom that’s been waiting for you all along.
